Important Notes

The Accident and Injury-related insurance forms have been updated, as of January/2010. Please destroy any old forms you may have and use the current forms. The attached forms should be used to record any accidents or injuries that might occur at any CBTF-santioned event. These forms have been approved for use by our insurance broker.

A number of coaches have spoken with me and worried about the judging of our events.

Their concern is: Many athletes’ have been on the cusp of moving up to 2.5, 4.0, and 6.0. for a number of times but have been held back for a long time.

Another situation: An athlete had just moved up one level, because of a perfect performance, but on the next competition had a poor performance yet received the same score. It is all right to score below the level, if you felt they did not compare with the role model and range descriptions for that level on that day.

January 5, 2015 - The Canadian Baton Twirling Federation is pleased to announce the selection of judges for the 2015 Canadian Winner/Championships in Oshawa, Ontario:

January 5, 2015 - The Canadian Baton Twirling Federation is pleased to announce the selection of the following judges for the 2015 International Cup Qualifier in Winnipeg, Manitoba:

  • Ron Kopas - CBTF National Judges' Rep
  • Sheri Carter - USA

  • Larissa Dearing - AB
  • Natalie Fehres - AB
  • Amy Genton - ON

Continuing with the policy implemented in 2010, all applicants were assessed by a Judge Selection Committee on three factors:

December 8, 2014 - Musicality and Interpretation are skills that are essential for the athlete to understand and be able to demonstrate. Watch this vignette and see how Maureen Johnson, Canada's most successful coach, uses the same combinations to different pieces of music.

November 29, 2014 - The use of grip tape on batons has continued to increase over the past 20 years. Pretty much every 'legitimate' sport that uses an 'apparatus' (tennis, hockey, baseball, lacrosse, rhythmic gymnastics, golf, etc) has rules governing that apparatus. This has not been done for baton twirling.

December 4, 2014 - The CBTF Coaching Vignette Series introduced at the 2014 Fall Conference is launching this week.
