Debbie Nikolai moved that each Provincial Technical Chairperson will contact each CBTF certified judge on the Judges Directory within their province asking or stating that:

  • Would you like to serve on the 1986 panel of judges for the National Team Trials?
  • If so, please submit a resume to your Prov Technical Chair stating what division you are eligible to judge.
  • Stating that there will not be funding available from CBTF for travel expenses, etc.

The Prov Technical Committee will then screen all submissions and send names to the National Technical Chairperson who will then put together a master slate of names of all available judges and return this master slate to the Prov Technical Committees. They will then choose and submit a minimum of 5 names in order of priority and return to the National Tech Chairperson. Final selection will be done through tabulation by the National Tech Chairperson and the Judges Rep. The timeline on the first selection is April 1st. All provinces must adhere to the above procedures.

Lynda Feingold moved that for Canadian Team Trial Judges selections, this general format be followed:

  1. All judges on Judges List receive a letter with the judges registration form asking them whether they would consider judging any portion of the Cdn. Team Trials in that year.
  2. Provinces send 10 judges' names (using this list as a guide) in order of priority.
  3. Points are given for each judge (10 pts for 1st place on a province's list, 9 pts. For 2nd place, etc.).
  4. An additional 6 puts be given to judges appearing on 2 province's lists, 8 pts for appearing on 3 provinces' lists, an additional 10 pts. for appearing on 4 provinces' lists, etc.).

  4. The Selection Committee for Judges at the Canadian Team Trials will consist of CBTF President, CBTF Technical Chair, CBTF Judges Rep, CBTF Coaches Rep, National Competition Director (or designate), and the National Competition Treasurer (or designate). If any of the above is unable to sit on the Committee, the CBTF Executive will appoint a member from the CBTF Board of Directors.

The Committee is to meet at Fall Board Meeting to review the list of candidates taking into consideration the following in this order of priority:

  • Number of World Championships judged (consider number of years he/she has represented Canada).
  • Number of National Team Trial Championships judged (consider number of years she/he has sat on National panel).
  • Module 2 certification.
  • Judge can stay after National Team Trials to judge Canadian Championships.

After consideration of the above criteria, apply provincial and judges recommendation lists to the Selection Committee's ranking list.

All judges to be informed immediately after the meeting of the results of the Selection Process by the CBTF Judges Rep.

    1. Candidate to submit resume to National Judges Rep (in order to submit resume, candidate must be Module 2, 4 and/or 5 certified and must have judged at least one provincial qualifying championship in the past).
    2. Judges Rep to forward resumes to National Competition Director who, along with his/her committee, determines the Judging Panel for that year's Canadian Winner/Championship Events.

  Wendy Cruickshank moved that, in order to rank the judges for selection at the Canadian Team Trials, Canadian Individual & Group Championships and the International Cup Qualifier, the weight for the final ranking be 60% based on the point accumulation system and 40% based on the provincial ranking. The final decision for the selection of judges will be made by the CBTF Canadian Judges Selection Committee.

Karen Gratton moved that, on an annual basis, in order to determine the two judges for the World Cup and International Cup, the Executive shall appoint Judge #1. The Selection Committee shall select Judge #2.

CLARIFICATION: That, in an International Cup year, the Selection Committee shall select Judge#2 and may also select additional judges who must travel on their own expense.

CLARIFICATION: Judge #1 shall represent Canada at the WBTF Winter and Summer Judges' Committee Meetings.

Karen Gratton moved that the CBTF Executive appoint the members of the World Judges' Selection Committee each year based on the following composition:

  • CBTF Technical Chair (Committee Chair)
  • A person with technical expertise and knowledge of WBTF events & procedures
  • Two judges who have the following credentials:
    • Master Judges who do not intend to apply in that specific year
    • M5 Judges who do not have Masters certification
  • Two coaches who have had athletes qualify for and compete at Worlds and/or Intl Cup within the past 5 years
  • The CBTF President shall be an ex-officio member with no voting privileges

The CBTF Technical Chair shall be responsible to contact those people the Executive wishes to invite on the Selection Committee.

Karen Gratton moved that the World Judge Selection Process be revised as follows:

In early fall of the year prior to the World Cup/Intl Cup, the CBTF Technical Chair shall invite all CBTF certified and current Master Judges to submit an application to be considered as a judge to represent Canada at the Worlds/Intl Cup the following summer. The application will feature questions that the judge shall provide answers for consideration by the Selection Committee.
