2013 Board eVote eVote B13-01

At the 2012 Fall Technical Meeting, it was unanimously agreed that Canada should send representatives to the World Dance Sport Games (WDSF) in the Women's freestyle, Men's freestyle, and Pair events.

Rules/guidelines provided by the WDSF to select their contingent for the WDSF DanceSport Games in China, included:

  1. Athletes who competed at the 2012 World Championships in France are to be selected (i.e., an alternate should not be sent over someone who actually competed)
  2. All top countries are expected to send a pair...and preferably representation in ALL divisions (women, men, pairs)
  3. Rankings at the 2012 World Championships should be used to select the contingent.
  4. Athletes may only compete in one event.

WBTF has allotted Canada the following berths:

  1. Pairs: 1
  2. Men: 1
  3. Women: 4

I therefore move that the following roster of athletes represent Canada at the WDSF games in China:

Pair - Kayla McKinnon & Sara Thibeault
(Note: Kayla & Sara have confirmed their willingness to compete in this event at the WDSF games).

Men's Freestyle- Matthew Johnson
(Note: If Matthew declines, we not fill this berth, but would want to send a 5th women's freestyle athlete)

Compulsories and short program will not be part of the WDSF freestyle competition. Therefore, using the average average freestyle scores from the 2012 World Championships, the following Womens' freestyle roster is proposed:

Women's Freestyle - Kiera West, Sara Black, Nicole Johnson, Julia Newton
Should any of the above women (or men) decline their spot, an invitation would be extended to Amy Genton (Senior Women's alternate in 2012). Note that Sydney Wright (2012 Jr Womens' team), and MeKayla Lindsay (Jr Womens' alternate) have both retired from baton twirling, and are not being recommended for a berth.
