2012 Syl Apps Volunteer Achievement Award Goes to OBTA Parent

March 20, 2012 - The commitment and contributions of Baton Twirling's volunteers will once again be demonstrated at the 2011 Ontario Sport Awards. Michelle Bretherick has has selected as an award recipient for the Syl Apps Volunteer Achievement Award. The award will be presented on April 19 at the 2011 Ontario Sports Awards Ceremony.

Michelle first became a member of her club's Executive in 2002, becoming the Club President in 2005. Since 2005, Michelle first took has also contributed at the provincial level, holding a number of OBTA positions including: OBTA Sanction Officer, OBTA Membership Registrar, OBTA Secretary and OBTA Financial Advisor. In 2007, she accepted a position at the national level, becoming the Canadian Baton Twirling Federation Treasurer, a position she still holds.

Michelle is also a key contributor 'behind the scenes'. Michelle's hard work and dedication was an asset in securing a Trillium Foundation Grant for the Camaros in 2009. Michelle has often been responsible for the coordination of athlete entry forms for provincial and national competitions, and she has frequently been the Chief Tabulator at those provincial and national competitions.

The Canadian Baton Twirling Federation is deeply indebted to its volunteers in all areas - they are vital to the support of our ahtltes and the growth of our sport. We are proud of vounteers like Michelle Bretherick and extremely happy to see Michelle receive this recognition in her home province.
