  Theresa Eyssens moved that the CBTF Executive send a letter to Scotland's Technical Chairperson to clarify the use of CBTF Solo Dance Twirl music. The letter should be positive but firmly state that any tapes or copies of music must be purchased through CBTF.

Jennifer Meron proposed that we accept 1997 Summer Group Committee Meeting Recommendation #9 which states:

That all corps must use recorded music.

INTENT: Live music will not be permitted in parade corps and/or twirl corps and musical instruments are only permitted in theme corps as props.

Tina Larson proposed that, if a variable speed tape machine is used for Open WBTF Competitions, WBTF Open Critiques or CBTF Group Competitions, one coach of the athlete(s) is allowed to sit with the music operator and suggest a change to adjust the speed. There will only be one adjustiment allowed during the performance, preferably at the beginning of the performance. This adjustment is only done by the operator.

INTENT: This does not refer to Team Trials (or competitions with music tests).

 

2001 SBM MOTION #13
 

Karen Gratton moved that we accept Proposal #1 from the 2001 Winter Technical Meeting which reads:

That the Solo Dance Twirl music arrangement as composed by Peter Swan, Attitude Sound Designs, be accepted for implementation September, 2001.

 

2003 SBM MOTION #18
 

Karen Gratton moved that all CD's and cassette tapes for Freestyle, Pairs, WBTF Teams and CBTF Group Event must contain only the music selection for that particular athlete/pair/group. CD's or tapes with more than one music selection will not be accepted. All CD's and tapes must be clearly labeled with the athlete/pair/group name and division.

RECOMMENDATION: The time length of the music selection should also be included.

Karen Gratton moved that the music technician at a Provincial or National Team Trials shall be responsible to time the music selections during music tests and during each round of competition. Times shall be recorded on the athlete's/pair's/team's penalty sheet.

CLARIFICATION: Solo and Duet would used Selection #1 and 2-Baton and 3-Baton would use Selection #2 on the International Cup music CD.

Karen Gratton moved that Proposal #2, 2006 STM be accepted as follows:

That the CBTF adopt a rotational system for four (4) CBTF Solo Dance Twirl Selections whereby each selection is used for a period of three (3) years as follows:

  • Selection #1 - 07-08, 08-09, 09-10**
  • Selection #2 - 10-11, 11-12, 12-13**
  • Selection #3 - 13-14, 14-15, 15-16**
  • Selection #4 - 17-18, 18-19, 19-20**

INTENT: All to be included on the CBTF Music CD.

(Note: after this motion was passed, the Board decided to keep the current selection for one more year (06-07) and start the rotation for the 07-08 year as there was not enough time for coaches to adjust.)

  Elan Paluck moved that, for the 2013 International Cup Qualifier, ICQ, coaches submit digital electronic music with each entry, via USB stick or e-mail. USB sticks will not necessarily be returned.

Elan Paluck moved that the following rules and procedures shall be in effect for the Canadian Level A and B Freestyle and Pair Winner/Championship Events.

Qualification Procedure
- All level A and B freestyle and pair athletes must enter and compete at their provincials in these events and levels in the same year.

Age Divisions
- At Canadians, Level B freestyle and pairs shall compete under CBTF age divisions (the same as other Canadian winner events with age determined as of December 31st.
- At Canadians, Level A freestyle and pairs shall compete under WBTF age divisions (junior or senior) with age between January 1st and December 31st of the competition year.

Rounds
- Each division shall follow the same format as other Canadian Winner/Championship events.

Compulsory Moves
- Compulsories shall be performed by all Level B and Junior A athletes.
- For World Championship years, upon receiving notification of the chosen compulsory set from WBTF, the Junior A athletes shall perform that same set at the Canadian Championships. Level B athletes shall perform the opposite set at the Canadian Winner event.
- For International Cup years, CBTF officials shall draw the set number for Level A with the opposite set to be performed by Level B athletes.

Short Program
- Short Program shall be performed by all Level A Senior athletes.

Music Tests
- No music tests shall be run. Grand Nationals
- There shall be no Grand National Level A freestyle or pair championships.

Awards
- All divisions shall be awarded to top five. Type of awards and awards procedures shall be the same as for other Canadian Winner/Championship events.

Other Stipulations
- WBTF costume rules, time limits, score sheets and masters, judging methods, tabulation procedures and other WBTF competition procedures shall apply.

CLARIFICATION: This shall rescind the 2005 motion and amend the 2010 motion

 

2013 Fall Conference MOTION #14 (2013 Pre-FTM Proposal 3)
 

Karen Gratton proposed that the following rules and procedures shall be in effect for all Provincial Level B and A Freestyle and Pair Winner/Championship Events or Level A Provincial Team Trials.

Qualification Procedure
At Provincial Championship events, Level A Freestyle and Pairs shall compete under WBTF Age Divisions (junior or senior) with age between January 1st and December 31st of the competition year. Level B freestyle and pairs shall compete under CBTF age divisions.

For International Cup years, upon receiving notification of the chosen compulsory set from the CBTF Technical Chair, the Junior Level A shall perform that same set at provincials. Level B shall perform the opposite set.

Short Program
Short Program shall count for 25% of the athlete’s score and shall be performed by all Level A Senior athletes.

Music Tests/Costume Checks
Unless time permits, it is not necessary that costume or music checks be run. Official music timing is done during the athlete or pair’s actual performance.

Awards
All divisions shall be awarded to top five. Type of awards and awards procedures shall be the same as for other Provincial W/C events.

Berths
Canadian Team Trials: Each province shall be allowed to send up to 5 entrants in each Level A freestyle/pair/team division with an additional berth earned for each Final Round placement at the previous Canadian Team Trial. There shall be no alternates sent with a Provincial Contingent. Canadian Winner/Championships: Level B athletes/teams or pairs that compete in their Provincial Winner event become eligible to enter and compete in that same Canadian Winner event. Level A athletes/teams or pairs that compete in their provincial Championship (in International Cup years) or Team Trial (in World Championship years) events, are eligible to enter and compete in that same Canadian event.

Other Stipulations
WBTF costume rules, time limits, score sheets and masters, judging methods, tabulation procedures and other WBTF competition procedures shall apply.

CLARIFICATION: This shall rescind the 2009 motion/clarification

2013 Fall Conference MOTION #24 (2013 Technical Proposal 4)
 

Maureen Johnson moved to adopt the Extended Solo Music Pilot Project for Level BI & A at Open and Provincial Winner/Championship competitions for the 2013-14 competition season. The time will be approximately 2:15 in length.

Intent: All provinces are encouraged to participate and report back at the 2014 FTM.

 

2014 FBM MOTION #11
 

Elan moved that 2014 FTM Proposal #1 be accepted:

To accept the extended solo music for Level BI and A solo and duet events at all CBTF sanctioned competitions.

Elan moved that 2014 FTM Proposal #10 be accepted:

That Junior, Senior and Collegiate athletes competing in Solo Dance Twirl shall use the current WBTF Artistic Twirl music selection.

CLARIFICATION: Primary and Juvenile athletes shall continue to use the current CBTF Solo Dance Twirl music selection.
