Grand National Championships

1985 FTM MOTION #44
  Debbie Nikolai moved that Open Floor Strut not be made a Grand National event at this time due to the changes being considered by the Strut Commission. It will be the responsibility of the Strut Commission to make a recommendation as to the Grand National event.

 

1986 STM MOTION #??
  That, effective 1987, the CBTF will hold a Grand National Dance Twirl Team, Twirling Team and Corps competitions for the advanced divisions.

 

1986 STM MOTION #??
  That, effective 1987, first place advanced groups will re-compete for the Grand National Dance Twirl Team, Twirling Team and Corps titles; no small, no large, no age division will be used.

  Wendy Harmen moved that Solo Dance Twirl be a Grand National Event for 1987.

 

1987 STM MOTION #16 (AMENDED - 1990 SBM - MOTION #16)
  Wendy Harmen moved that Solo Dance Twirl become a Grand National Event beginning in the year 1988.

  Moved that CBTF Twirling Teams be included as a Grand National Event.

  Brenda Bennett moved that the host province of the Canadian Championships put on the best Grand National Championship as possible.

  Sally Ford moved that CBTF take financial responsibility for Grand National Awards (crests and certificates).

 

1992 STM MOTION #26 (AMENDED - 2006 SBM - MOTION #6)
  Myra Kirk moved that when 3 or more judges are used (eg: Canadian Individual/Duet Winner/Championship rounds, Individual/Duet Grand Nationals), the majority of firsts takes precedence over place points. Should a tie occur, place points shall be added and, if a tie still exists, then scores will be added.

 

1993 STM MOTION #38 (RATIFIED - 1993 SBM - MOTION #18)
  Myra Kirk moved that Duet Twirl be included as a Grand National Event effective 1994.

 

1994 WTM MOTION #28 (RATIFIED - 1994 SBM)
  Tina Larson moved that in Grand National Group Competition, individuals can compete against themselves.

 

1994 WTM MOTION #45 (RATIFIED - 1994 SBM)
  Susan Irwin moved that no score sheets be used for Grand National Events. Two copies of a master will be used - one copy for the judge and one copy for the tab room for individual and group events.

 

1994 WTM MOTION #52 (RATIFIED - 1994 SBM)
  Nancy Beachin moved that cassette tapes not be used for judging Grand National group events.

 

1994 FTM MOTION #38 (RATIFIED 1994 FBM)
 

Linda Boyd moved that the number of judges for Grand National events is a minimum of five (5) judges.

Effective January 1, 1995

 

1995 FTM MOTION #16 (AMENDED & RATIFIED-1995 FBM-MOTION #31)
 

Alison Brown moved that the number of judges for Grand National Group Events will be as follows:

Corps - judged by a minimum of 3 caption judges with 2 penalty judges
Dance Twirl & CBTF Teams - judged by a minimum of 5 judges with an additional judge for team penalties.
Standard penalties will still be taken.

Effective January 1, 1996

 

1996 FTM PROPOSAL #44 (RATIFIED - 1996 FBM - MOTION #13)
 

Jennifer Meron proposed that for Grand National Competition, there be a practical order of appearance for all group events (as determined by competition director).

INTENT: To prevent back-to-back performances by groups with athletes in both divisions.

Effective January 1, 1997

 

2001 SBM MOTION #18
 

Karen Gratton moved to accept Proposal #8 from the 2001 Winter Technical Meeting which reads:

That, on a trial basis for the 2001 Canadians Level A and B Individual/Duet Winner/Championships, all scores in the Final Rounds and in Grand Nationals will not be flashed.

DIRECTIVE: To be reviewed at the 2001 Fall Technical Meeting.

Tina Larson moved that scores are to be flashed for Grand National Individual/Duet Championships.

2004 SBM MOTION #13
 

Karen Gratton moved that Three Baton be accepted as a Major Event and that Grand National Three Baton be introduced effective 2005 Canadian Championships.

CLARIFICATION: Three Baton must be offered at all CBTF sanctioned open, provincial and National competitions; however, because of the high ceiling requirements, it is suggested that competition brochures indicate the ceiling height of the facility.

2005 FBM MOTION #32
  Cyndy Park moved that the Grand National Trophies be retired after the 2006 Canadian Championships. Traveling plaques would be used with the names and years from the trophies transferred to the plaques.

 

2007 FBM MOTION #28
 

Karen Gratton moved that Proposal #1 of the 2007 Summer Technical Meeting be accepted as follows:

That 5 scoring judges are used for Group Grand Nationals to be consistent with Individual Grand Nationals plus penalty and timing judges as necessary.

 

2007 FBM MOTION #35
 

Karen Gratton moved that Proposal #12 of the Summer Technical Meeting be accepted as follows:

That the Group Grand National results will not be calculated into the calculations of the Group Challenge Cup.

2009 FBM MOTION #24 (2009 FTM - Prop #13)
 

Karen Gratton moved to accept the following changes to CBTF Team and CBTF Group events:

  • CBTF Team event be renamed to CBTF Small Team
  • CBTF Group event be renamed to CBTF Large Team
  • CBTF Small Team is an event for 6-8 members
  • CBTF Large Team is an event for 9 or more members
  • CBTF Small and Large Teams shall use the current CBTF Team/Groups score sheet, range descriptions and WBTF Team role models
  • Advancement scores (for both Small and Large Team) shall be:
    • C to B: 25
    • B to A: 50
  • CBTF Small and Large Teams shall compete against each other in Grand Nationals

CLARIFICATION: The score sheet title to be changed to read CBTF Teams

2010 SBM MOTION #10
 

Karen Gratton moved to adopt STM Proposal #2 which reads as follows:

  • That CBTF shall offer Freestyle/Compulsories/Short Program/Pairs at the Canadian Winner/Championships
  • That level A athletes shall compete under WBTF age divisions
  • That level B athletes shall compete under CBTF age divisions
  • That Freestyle shall be combined with Compulsories/Short Program, following WBTF tabulation procedures
  • That level A and B Freestyle & Pairs shall follow the same procedure for Preliminary and Final rounds, and that this be the same procedure as for other CBTF individual events
  • That there are no Grand Nationals for the Level A Freestyle or Pairs Champions
  • That awards for the Level A & B Freestyle & Pairs follow the same procedure as for other CBTF Individual events

2011 FBM MOTION #27 - 2011 FTM Proposal 9
 

Elan Paluck moved that Theme Production be moved to the status of a CBTF Minor Event.

Effective: September 1, 2012

 

2012 FBM MOTION 29 (2012 FTM Prop #14)
 

Elan Paluck moved that the following rules and procedures shall be in effect for the Canadian Level A and B Freestyle and Pair Winner/Championship Events.

Qualification Procedure
- All level A and B freestyle and pair athletes must enter and compete at their provincials in these events and levels in the same year.

Age Divisions
- At Canadians, Level B freestyle and pairs shall compete under CBTF age divisions (the same as other Canadian winner events with age determined as of December 31st.
- At Canadians, Level A freestyle and pairs shall compete under WBTF age divisions (junior or senior) with age between January 1st and December 31st of the competition year.

Rounds
- Each division shall follow the same format as other Canadian Winner/Championship events.

Compulsory Moves
- Compulsories shall be performed by all Level B and Junior A athletes.
- For World Championship years, upon receiving notification of the chosen compulsory set from WBTF, the Junior A athletes shall perform that same set at the Canadian Championships. Level B athletes shall perform the opposite set at the Canadian Winner event.
- For International Cup years, CBTF officials shall draw the set number for Level A with the opposite set to be performed by Level B athletes.

Short Program
- Short Program shall be performed by all Level A Senior athletes.

Music Tests
- No music tests shall be run.

Grand Nationals
- There shall be no Grand National Level A freestyle or pair championships.

Awards
- All divisions shall be awarded to top five. Type of awards and awards procedures shall be the same as for other Canadian Winner/Championship events.

Other Stipulations
- WBTF costume rules, time limits, score sheets and masters, judging methods, tabulation procedures and other WBTF competition procedures shall apply.

CLARIFICATION: This shall rescind the 2005 motion and amend the 2010 motion

 

2013 Fall Conference MOTION #14 (2013 Pre-FTM Proposal 3)
 

Karen Gratton proposed that the following rules and procedures shall be in effect for all Provincial Level B and A Freestyle and Pair Winner/Championship Events or Level A Provincial Team Trials.

Qualification Procedure
- At Provincial Championship events, Level A Freestyle and Pairs shall compete under WBTF Age Divisions (junior or senior) with age between January 1st and December 31st of the competition year. Level B freestyle and pairs shall compete under CBTF age divisions.

Rounds
- Level B Freestyles and Pairs shall have 1 or 2 rounds (competition officials’ decision).
- In World Championship years, Level A Freestyles, Pairs and Teams shall have 2 rounds.
- In International Cup years, Level A freestyles and pairs shall have 1 or 2 rounds (competition officials’ decision).

Compulsory Moves
- Compulsory moves shall count for 25% of the athlete’s score and shall be performed by all Level B and Junior Level A athletes.
- In World Championship years, upon receiving notification of the chosen compulsory set from WBTF, the Junior Level A athletes shall perform that same set at their Provincial Team Trials. Level B athletes shall perform the opposite set.
- For International Cup years, upon receiving notification of the chosen compulsory set from the CBTF Technical Chair, the Junior Level A shall perform that same set at provincials. Level B shall perform the opposite set.

Short Program
- Short Program shall count for 25% of the athlete’s score and shall be performed by all Level A Senior athletes.

Music Tests/Costume Checks
- Unless time permits, it is not necessary that costume or music checks be run. Official music timing is done during the athlete or pair’s actual performance.

Awards
- All divisions shall be awarded to top five. Type of awards and awards procedures shall be the same as for other Provincial W/C events.

Berths
- Canadian Team Trials: Each province shall be allowed to send up to 5 entrants in each Level A freestyle/pair/team division with an additional berth earned for each Final Round placement at the previous Canadian Team Trial. There shall be no alternates sent with a Provincial Contingent.
- Canadian Winner/Championships: Level B athletes/teams or pairs that compete in their Provincial Winner event become eligible to enter and compete in that same Canadian Winner event. Level A athletes/teams or pairs that compete in their provincial Championship (in International Cup years) or Team Trial (in World Championship years) events, are eligible to enter and compete in that same Canadian event.

Other Stipulations
- WBTF costume rules, time limits, score sheets and masters, judging methods, tabulation procedures and other WBTF competition procedures shall apply.

CLARIFICATION: This shall rescind the 2009 motion/clarification

 

2013 Fall Conference MOTION #31
  I move that the CBTF adopt the Awards Policy as noted on the attached appendix. (refer to CBTF Competition Awards Policy)
