DIRECTIVE: Provinces that use the Graded System for Juvenile Athletes

At the 2013 Maple Leaf Open Competition, all primary athletes will be graded (gold, silver, bronze) and all juvenile athletes will be scored and ranked.

This Directive has no effect on provinces that have adopted the Graded System for Primary athletes only. In this case, Primary athletes will compete at their Provincial Open and will be graded. These athletes may enter the Maple Leaf Open in Moncton and will also be graded.

In provinces that have also adopted the Graded System for their Juvenile athletes, provinces are advised to offer both the “open” event (which will remain graded), and the Winner event (which will be scored and flashed). Coaches should decide which event is best suited to their athlete’s interest and ability.

  • Athletes who compete in the competitive event have the option of:
    1. Entering the Canadian Winner/Championship event in Moncton
    2. Entering the Maple Leaf Open competition in Moncton
    3. Not participating in either
  • Athletes who compete in the open (graded) event, may not participate in the Canadian Winner event, but have the option of:
    1. Entering the Maple Leaf Open competition in Moncton
